It’s A Grand Night for Singing:
Venice Little Theatre opens Cabaret series with a Rodgers & Hammerstein celebration on August 3
Venice Little Theatre begins it’s 2007-08 Cabaret Series on August 3, 2007 with a celebration of the glorious music of Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Originally staged by Tony-award winner Walter Bobbie, A Grand Night for Singing opens in the Pinkerton Theatre on August 3 and runs through August 26, 2007 with performances Tuesday through Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $23.00 and are available now at the theatre’s box office, at 941-488-115 or online at
www.venicestage.com. Summer hours in the box office are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The box office opens one hour before performances for walk up tickets. The show - a fresh take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon - was conceived by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie, who promptly garnered two more Tony nominations. Did you ever imagine "Shall We Dance?" performed as a comic pas de deux for a towering beauty and her diminutive admirer, or did you suspect that one day a lovelorn young lad might pose the musical question, "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" That's precisely the kind of invention lavished upon this new revue, with innovative musical arrangements including a sultry Andrews Sisters-esque "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair," a swingin' "Honeybun" worthy of the Modernaires, and a jazzy "Kansas City" which leaves no question about how terrifically up to date the remarkable songs remain.
Directing is Allan Kollar and Michael Sebastien is Musical Director. Stephanie Harmon is choreographer and the show features additional choreography by Renee Cordonnier. Onstage with these glorious songs are MaryBeth Antoinette, Renee Cordonnier, Nidal Zarour, Shane Ferreira and Colleen Sudduth. The theatre’s lobby bar will be open during all performances.
The theatre is located at 140 West Tampa Avenue, on the island in Venice. Tickets are available by phone at 941-488-1115 or at the box office in person from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays. The box office opens one hour before all shows for walk-up tickets. Tickets are also available 24-hours a day at the theatre’s website, www.venicestage.com.
