IVMS and Venice Theatre's outreach partnership is in its eighth year. Jan Pearman, director of the IVMS after-school program, sees theatre classes as an opportunity to challenge her students while also catering to different curriculum levels. Candace Artim, Gladys Varga and Sandy Davisson of VT's Education and Outreach Department work on-site at the IVMS after-school program throughout the school year. This year the program has expanded to include two classes at the IVMS North campus! The program culminates in a fully-mounted production with all eight goups participating on Venice Theatre's MainStage. This year's Production...LIFE IS A HIGHWAY!Written by VT's own playwright-in-residence Ronald Myroup!!Life is a Highway! will be performed on VT's MainStage onMarch 9, 2013 with 1:00 and 4:00 curtains. For ticket information call IVMS at 484-4999.**************One of our favorite productions from a previous year was...JUST ANOTHER DAY!
It explored how much fun children can have without being "hooked up" to technology such as cell phones, computers and all the other gadgets we have in our society! This original production was written especially for the IVMS students by VT's own teacher and playwright Gianna Campo.
This exciting partnership enables children to explore creative expression through drama and develops their communication and social skills. Ms. Artim states, "I am so impressed at the students' personal growth, ability and dedication to the project. It's wonderful to see the students' progress as actors and individuals. Davisson adds, "The discipline which is so imperative to the acting process, is similar to the discipline that a sports team must have. It helps develop their ability to work as a team, problem solve, and think on their feet. I can see their discipline grow with each class. The students are truly amazing!" |
