Venice Little Theatre NEWS
Oh my lordy, now THAT’s funny. . .
. . . your editor saw a show the other night. Your editor does not impress easily. And further, it takes a lot of work to make your editor even smile – making your editor laugh is an entirely higher level of endeavor.
Your editor laughed. Your editor screamed. Your editor said "oh lordy, now that’s funny". Your editor saw
The Big Bang. And so should you.Jay Handelman saw it (he’s the theatre reviewer at The Herald-Tribune) and he liked it a lot. His review appeared today on 24/7, the Trib’s on-line blog. It’ll probably appear in the print edition by the weekend. He said:
VLT gets laughs with a 'Big Bang'
. . . There's a lot of room for poking fun at all of history, and the real creators (Jed Feuer and Boyd Graham) do a fine job . . . You get a lot of spirit and energy from Jason Kimble as Jed and Todd Lindamood as Boyd in the Venice Little Theatre Cabaret production, which runs through Sept. 23. They run themselves ragged and basically use every piece of furniture, curtain, lampshade and decorative touch found in the apartment where they're doing this backer's audition. The way they dress themselves to play these historic figures with props and furnishings is part of the fun. . . Director Steven Flaa, who previously staged a bright and frenetic production at American Stage, does strong work with the two actors and pianist Jason Brenner as Albert . . there are still a lot of laughs, and you may actually learn a little something (no matter how warped) with
The Big Bang.Of course, he said a lot more than that, but he agrees with your editor. This is a very funny show.
Say congratulations and thanks to . . .
Sharon Feiser of our scenery crew, who recently took on Stage Crew work as well. Sharon was named the July 2007 Volunteer of the Month. As a key member of Bill Czarniak’s new afternoon scenery crew, she really enjoyed the reserved parking place during the month of August.
And Larry and Dianne Higgins have just been named Volunteers of the Month for August 2007. Dianne is here and has been for some years as a key component of the painting crew. Both she and her husband, Larry, can also be seen frequently sweating in the sun out in front of VLT. Because without Larry’s planning and work and Dianne’s assistance, the lovely garden in front of our theatre would be nothing.
Thanks to three terrific volunteers!
